For the long way travelers✈️
For all of you who travel from the US we would suggest to fly into Kastrup Airport, Copenhagen (it is about 30 minutes away from Malmö and you can go by either car or train between the cities).
We understand that many of you might be visiting Europe and Sweden for the first time and it can be a handfull to figure out what to do while you are here.
We have collected ideas below for some inspiration.
Copenhagen (about 30 minutes from Malmö)
Lots of walking around, eating good food (don't miss Smørrebrød), visiting Freetown Christiania, see Nyhavn, visit the different palaces, walk in picturesque Christianshavn (cobbled streets, small cafe's, colorful houses and boathouses), visit Botanisk Have (Botanical Garden). Copenhagen has lots more to offer, these are just a few suggestions. To keep in mind if you visit the city: Copenhagen is a known biking city - watch out for bikers when you walk around! You do not need a car to get around Copenhagen.
You can buy train tickets https://www.skanetrafiken.se/# or in the ticket machines in the train station
Österlen (about 1.5 hours from Malmö)
Österlen is a part of the Swedish historical province of Skåne. Österlen is lovely to visit during the summer. Some things to do: Knäbäckshusens strand (named one of Sweden's prettiest beaches), Stenshuvud National Park, visit Simrishamn, visit a typical Swedish café Kaffestugan Alunbruket, visit Kiviks Musteri (Apple Orchard), stand at Sweden's southernmost point in Smygehuk, and visit the many farm shops that Österlen has to offer. The easiest way to get around Österlen is by car.
Ven (a Swedish island between Sweden and Denmark)
Ven is a small island where most people go to ride tandem bikes (or regular ones). The views at Ven over the water, Sweden and Denmark are beautiful and you can easily spend a full day there, riding around the whole island, eating ice cream, swimming in the ocean, visiting Spirit of Hven where they make their own whiskey and more.
To go to Ven you take a ferry from Landskrona (which is approximately a 30 minute ride north from Malmö). There are trains from Malmö to Landskrona.

Helsingborg
The hometown of the Krona family! This is where Vera was born and grew up. Helsingborg is a nice city to visit during the summer with numerous restaurants, cafe's, beaches and walks along the ocean. To do in Helsingborg: walk around in Pålsjö Skog (beautiful park in woods and with stunning views over the ocean and Denmark), eat Ramen and drink beer at Barski (the best restaurant/bar in town according to us), visit Kärnan ( a medieval tower - the only part remaining of a larger Danish fortress which, along with the fortress Kronborg on the opposite bank of Öresund, controlled the entranceway between the Kattegat and the Öresund and further south the Baltic Sea. Tura (this is something you cannot miss when you are in Helsingborg - take the ferry over to Helsingör, Denmark and order two red and one green. It is a boatride of about 20 minutes and you can buy a one way ticket and go back and forth from Helsingborg-Helsingör-Helsingborg. If you want to jump off in Helsingör, make sure to not miss the Kronborg Castle of which Hamlet is based of off). Visit Sofiero (our King's old summer home), visit Fredriksdals Museums and Gardens, but most importantly - make sure to visit the Krona's! You can go to Helsingborg by train from most cities.
West Coast of Sweden
The West Coast of Sweden is a super popular destination during the summer. There are an endless amount of towns and fishing villages to visit and these are just some examples: Falkenberg (eat what is appointed to be Sweden's best pizza at lilla Napoli - although book a table as soon as possible because they are pretty much always fully booked), Göteborg is on the way up to a lot of nice fishing villages and is Sweden's second largest city, Orust, Smögen, Hunnebostrand, Fjällbacka (which we personally recommend as we have spent a lot of summers there), and Grebbestad. For this kind of road trip we would suggest renting a car.
Stockholm
The capital of Sweden and our home! For those of you who plan on going to Stockholm, reach out to us and we will give you more detailed tips for your visit to the capital city. There are plenty of things to do. From Malmö, it takes about 7 hours to Stockholm by car/train or an hour flight either from Malmö Sturup Airport or Ängelholm/Helsingborg Airport.
- For some inspiration: walk around Gamla Stan, visit the Castle, walk around Djurgården, have a beer at Beer Garden in Södermalm with a beautiful view over the city, visit Gustav Vasa Museum, have a fika at Vetekatten (make sure not to miss Conor's favorite - Prinsesstårta), take a ferry to the Archipelagoes (Waxholm, Sandhamn, Värmdö etc.), walk in Conor's favorite part of the city - Vasastan.
